On December 8, 2021, Mr. Azad M. Ameen, President of the Sulaymaniyah Provincial Council, visited Aran Organization to meet its staff and discuss critical issues related to political party interventions in government affairs. The meeting particularly focused on the controversial decision to transform notary department services (petition writing) into private sector operations.

The Impact of the Notary Services Transformation

The decision by the Minister of Justice to transfer petition writing from notary departments to private sector companies has been deemed illegal, as it violates the Notaries’ Law No. 32 of 1998. This move has had significant repercussions, including job losses for many individuals who were previously engaged in petition writing.

During his visit, Mr. Ameen met with several individuals who had lost their jobs as a result of this policy. He expressed his commitment to addressing the issue and finding solutions to mitigate its impact.

Clinical Legal Project: Aran’s Response

Aran Organization has been actively addressing such issues through its Clinical Legal Project, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). This project aims to restore the rights of individuals affected by political party interventions and illegal decisions.

The Clinical Legal Project encompasses various activities, including:

  1. Workshops and Seminars to educate individuals about their legal rights.
  2. Engagement with General Attorneys to file judicial complaints.
  3. Media Campaigns to raise public awareness.

Aiming for Justice

Through its efforts, Aran Organization has consistently advocated for the rights of individuals impacted by unjust decisions. The visit by the President of the Sulaymaniyah Provincial Council highlights the growing recognition of these issues and Aran’s pivotal role in addressing them.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward holding authorities accountable and ensuring compliance with legal frameworks in the Kurdistan Region.
